Nice 2015 (SAFI 2nd Userboard meeting)

The second Userboard meeting for the SAFI program was held in ACRI-ST in Sophia Antipolis near Nice, France, on May 21st 2015.

Run and facilitated by staff from University College Cork, the Daithí O' Murchu Marine Research Station (DOMMRS), and ACRI, this series of small workshops focused on getting Userboard feedback on the prototype DSS and products, identifying opportunities and guidance for commercialisation, and designing a training course that targets the needs and requirements of trainees.

The guidance and feedback given have been distilled into a series of actions, which shall be applied throughout the project's activities, and shall be reported on at the final User Consultation Meeting in early 2016. The SAFI project team wishes to thank participants for their enthusiasm, their ideas and their constructive criticism at the Nice meeting. Your contribution is very much appreciated and we look forward to incorporating your feedback and guidance into SAFI's activities.

Session 1 - Shaping SAFI's Product & Service Development

The following actions were identified from the recommendations made and the requirements noted:

  2. Make the system more intuitive using user recommendations as a guide
  3. Storyboard the SAFI Service, ensuring users are guided to the web-GIS displaying only a relevant subset of layers for the User (first divide by fisheries and aquaculture, then fish and shellfish).
  4. Incorporate a visual indication which makes it clear to Users which areas currently have no data, or alternatively highlight those areas which do have data/information.
  5. Use the examples of the Norwegian and French Standards of Practice (SOPs) to guide the layers displayed for aquaculture site selection.
  6. Address each aspect the Userboard disliked, and implement remedial fixes.
  7. Scope Scope the potential for users to have dedicated accounts, and the UB-recommended tools/functionalities this would enable. Implement if resources and priorities allow.
  8. Incorporate UB-recommended shore-side information/data into the SAFI list of layers (to support aquaculture studies and assessments).
  9. Scope adapting the system for use on tablet technologies (e.g. IPads etc.). Implement as resources and priorities allow.
  10. Ensure that species indicators take into account the different timeframes which apply to parameters influencing species biology and ecology.
  11. Scope the implications of linking national/international HABs warning services to the SAFI system.

Session 2 - Shaping SAFI's Commercialisation Strategy

The following actions were identified from the recommendations made and the requirements noted:

Session 3 - Shaping SAFI's Training & Capacity Building
